It started as a sort of side quest, a palate cleanser while working on original novels, but has now become something of a Mt Everest I must climb.
My ambition is to translate ALL of Tolstoy's War and Peace into Australian.
I've already translated books 1 and 2, but - fun fact, War & Peace is such a big book that is actually 16 books, so, yeah... there's a fair bit to go. I'm currently working on Book 4. Book 3 is finished but it got wedged sideways in the publishing pipeline. We're pushing though, it should pop out soon.

Yeah fair enough. It's Tolstoy's War & Peace, with an Aussie accent.
Many people have translated War & Peace into English over the years. (Maude, Garnett, P&V, and Briggs, to name a few.) Each translation has its merits. I'm creating a new translation, and adding Louis to the ranks.
My version is faithful; line for line, word for word. The only difference: the narrator is now a massive bogan. Think of it like this - when you read War & Peace translated into Japanese, you don't expect to find the characters in Tokyo downing Asahi and sushi. It's still set in Russia during the Napoleonic Wars. Same principle applies here - the language is Aussie, the world is not.
Legitimately, if you read the Louis translation you can still say you've read Tolstoy's War & Peace.
